Porama (Koy) Thanaporn’s global work focuses on low-cost interventions for prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease through the use of e-health and generic drugs. Koy’s interests in global health equity align with the Center’s theme of developing technical solutions for health equity. Thanaporn’s primary interests are in repurposing old drugs for new indications and the use of novel therapeutics in heart failure. He currently works on a precision medicine heart failure trial in China using spironolactone in patients with aldehyde dehydrogenase type 2 deficiency, a common hereditary disorder that interferes with the metabolism of alcohol.
