Maternal health equity, midwifery models, comparative health systems education

Lee Roosevelt’s global health focus centers on advancing maternal health equity through comparative health systems education, bringing midwifery students to countries with robust maternity care infrastructures to learn scalable, midwifery-led models. Her work prepares future providers to adapt equity-centered approaches to improve care for rural and immigrant populations in the United States. Her interests in global health equity align with the Center’s themes of empowering women, strengthening systems for health, and addressing social and environmental determinants of health. Roosevelt’s research includes mentoring midwifery students in Ethiopia to conduct studies on postnatal care provision in the Tigray region, with an emphasis on strengthening maternal health systems. She also disseminates scholarship on midwifery-led care in international forums to contribute to global dialogue on equitable maternity care models.
