Impact accelerator grants

Take what’s working and take it forward

Impact Accelerator Grants support high-potential, collaborative projects that mobilize novel ideas to help people live healthier, longer lives. Every project is co-designed with a global partner. Proposals without a strong collaborative focus with partners in low- and middle-income countries are unlikely to be successful.

Where Seed Grants support early-stage, exploratory work, Impact Accelerator Grants are designed for action: preference is given to projects that move beyond conceptualizing problems or defining research questions, and instead design, pilot, or test solutions that improve health outcomes in low-resourced settings.

Who should apply

Applications are welcome from University of Michigan faculty in clinical, research, or instructional tracks. There's no expectation of prior CGHE grant history: first-time applicants with sufficiently developed work are welcome to apply.

Priority areas for this cycle

This cycle, we especially welcome proposals aligned with one or more of the following:

‍

  • Early-career investigators within 10 years of completing their terminal degree
  • Equitable AI and Health Technology
  • Local–Global Connections

How to apply

Applicants must submit a Letter of Intent (LOI) no longer than two pages via InfoReady. Selected teams will be invited to submit a full proposal.
We encourage applicants to reach out whenever they have an idea and feel ready for feedback — for some teams that's early in the process, for others it's later, once the idea has taken shape. Consultation isn't required, but it's available to help with logistical questions or scientific development.

Review criteria

Proposals are evaluated on:

  • Strength and clarity of the global partnership, including evidence of co-design
  • Scientific rigor and feasibility of the project within the proposed timeline and budget
  • Alignment with this cycle's priority areas
  • Action-oriented focus — the degree to which the project moves beyond conceptualization toward designing, piloting, or testing a solution
  • Clarity of the problem statement and its relevance to the partner community

Awardees are expected to:

  • Submit a brief progress report four months after project start
  • Attend quarterly check-in meetings with CGHE staff
  • Submit a final report at the close of the project period
  • Pursue follow-on funding within seven years
