Summer internship

Where global health research careers begin

Our Summer Internship program pairs U-M graduate students with faculty-led research projects for a paid, mentored research experience. Interns are attached to a currently active, CGHE-funded research project, supporting real work already underway. Most internships are based here in Ann Arbor, where a large share of the center's global health work happens day to day. Interns work alongside faculty at the forefront of global health equity research, gaining hands-on exposure while contributing meaningfully to real projects.

What interns receive

  • Placement on a currently active, CGHE-funded research project.
  • A $5,000 stipend, distributed through the Office of Financial Aid in two installments
  • Mentored research experience with a U-M faculty member or research team
  • Exposure to interdisciplinary research activities including proposal and protocol development, data management and analysis, project coordination, materials development for interventions, or literature searches, depending on the project
  • A platform to present their work: interns create a research poster to share at the center's annual community gathering event

Eligibility

Open to U-M graduate students from any campus, enrolled in a master's, doctoral, or other professional degree program. Internships require a minimum of 200 hours over the course of the summer. Students must be currently enrolled and confirmed to enroll for the following fall term; students graduating that same spring or summer do not qualify.

‍

International F & J students sponsored by the University of Michigan must have on-campus employment eligibility. Please consult the International Center ([email protected]) if you have questions about your status.

How to apply

Students review the list of available research projects and apply directly to the project(s) they're interested in. A separate application is required for each project. Applications are reviewed, and faculty mentors will conduct interviews with top candidates before final decisions.
