Maternal morbidity and mortality, mental health of women and infants, perinatal mental health and substance use, parenting interventions

Maria Muzik’s global work focuses on women’s mental health during pregnancy and postpartum, gender-based violence, child mental health, and multigenerational perspectives. Her interests in global health equity align with the Center's themes of empowering women, strengthening systems for health, and technical solutions for health equity. Muzik conducts research focused on the study of stress, trauma, and mental illness in the context of childbearing, its influence on parenting and the developing parent-infant relationship, and how to support families in overcoming adversity. She is particularly interested in understanding the links between inherited genes and environmental exposure in shaping a person’s risk and resiliency across the life span.
