Assistant Professor

Francesca Williamson’s global health focus centers on community-engaged and clinic-based health communication approaches to food and nutrition equity, with particular attention to children, gender, and families. Her work encompasses patient-provider interactions, community-engaged research, communication and narrative interventions, workforce development, and health education. Her interests in global health equity align with the Center’s themes of empowering women, strengthening systems for health, and addressing social and environmental determinants of health. Williamson’s research uses qualitative, language-based, and participatory methodologies to study food- and nutrition-related narratives, interventions, campaigns, and patient-provider communication among children, families, and marginalized communities. Her methods include discourse analysis of audio and video data, narrative analysis, co-design, co-production, participatory action research, and community-based participatory research.
