High-quality care delivery, implementation science, equitable access

Shawna Smith’s global health focus is on understanding and addressing barriers to delivering and receiving high-quality, evidence-based care. Her work emphasizes improving equitable access to care in low- and middle-income countries, with a particular focus on sub-Saharan Africa. Her interests in global health equity align with the Center’s themes of strengthening systems for health and developing technical solutions. Smith’s research examines determinants of high-quality, evidence-based care, utilizing culturally appropriate, community-informed methods to design implementation strategies that address key barriers. She also supports the development of process and outcome evaluations to assess the effectiveness of implementation efforts in improving access to and delivery of care.
