Research Collection Manager

Nicte Ordonez-Garza’s global health focus centers on leveraging natural history biorepositories, such as the Michigan Pathogen Biorepository, as a decentralized network for pathogen surveillance and study. She is dedicated to using mammalian disease ecology and collections data to advance global surveillance, public health, and pandemic prevention. Her interests in global health equity align with the Center’s themes of strengthening systems for health, addressing social and environmental determinants of health, and developing technical solutions. Dr. Ordonez-Garza’s research involves identifying and understanding the dynamics of zoonotic diseases—pathogens transmitted from animals, especially rodents and bats, to humans—in the Neotropics. Her work aims to develop surveillance networks and predict pathogen spillover to prevent pandemics and support health equity in vulnerable regions.
