Jorge Canari’s global health focus centers on understanding how food and water insecurity interact to influence nutrition, health, and equity among vulnerable and migrant populations. He aims to generate evidence that informs policies and interventions to reduce these insecurities, especially in the context of climate change and rapid urbanization. His interests in global health equity align with the Center’s themes of strengthening systems for health, addressing social and environmental determinants of health, and developing technical solutions. Canari’s research integrates mixed-methods and implementation science approaches to study food and water insecurity, vector-borne diseases, and zoonoses in Latin America, particularly in Peru. Through collaborative projects between the University of Michigan and Peruvian institutions, he seeks to design community-based interventions that strengthen resilience and health equity.
