Pediatric kidney care, maternal and child health, and digital health systems in underserved communities

Mahama’s global health focus centers on bridging gaps in healthcare quality between urban and rural communities in Ghana, especially for mothers and children. As a pediatrician and soon-to-be pediatric nephrologist practicing in underserved areas, Mahama is interested in improving healthcare delivery through digitalization of health systems and capacity building for healthcare professionals in rural communities. Mahama’s interests in global health equity align with the Center’s themes of empowering women, strengthening systems for health, addressing social and environmental determinants of health, and developing technical solutions. Mahama’s research focuses on maternal and newborn health, child and adolescent health, kidney diseases in children, and health equity in rural and underserved communities. This work also emphasizes eHealth and digitalization of health systems as tools to improve care access and strengthen health services.
