Now accepting applications for Summer 2025 graduate student programming

January 13, 2025

The Center for Global Health Equity at the University of Michigan (U-M) is excited to announce the opening of applications for three transformative summer programs designed to equip graduate students with the skills and experiences necessary to become leaders in global health equity. These programs offer a unique integration of scholarship, international collaboration, and practical advocacy to advance global health and human rights initiatives.

Summer Research Internship & Training Program

This paid summer internship offers highly motivated U-M graduate students from any discipline the chance to engage with real-world global health challenges alongside leading faculty experts. Participants will gain practical experience in designing solutions that contribute to the advancement of global health equity, becoming part of a professional learning community. The program is based at the U-M Ann Arbor campus, with potential for virtual or hybrid arrangements. For more information, visit the program’s webpage.

Summer Research Development Grants

This program provides funding for international travel expenses to support student-driven research projects in low- and middle-income countries. Grantees will co-design research proposals with local collaborators, aligning their projects with the center’s priorities of equitable global partnerships. The program mandates significant international fieldwork and includes comprehensive preparatory and reflective sessions. For more information, visit the program’s webpage.

Fellowship for Research to Advance Global Health & Human Rights

Newly launched, this six-month fellowship provides a paid research and advocacy experience for U-M graduate and professional students. In partnership with the Donia Human Rights Center and Physicians for Human Rights, fellows will co-design research projects with the mentorship of Michele Heisler, MD, MPA. The program integrates health and human rights frameworks to prepare students for leadership in justice and equity efforts. For more information, visit the fellowship’s webpage.

The Center for Global Health Equity is steadfast in its commitment to fostering best-in-class scholarship and equitable global partnerships. Through these programs, we aim to immerse graduate students at the University of Michigan in meaningful, hands-on research opportunities that enrich their academic and professional developments.
